Experian Credit reporting department,
Credit monitoring or identity protection Billing dispute District of Columbia
I signed up for a one-off credit report from Experian - a service I wanted to receive. After a few months I noticed that I was being billed monthly for $19.00. I did not notice this the first 2 months but then I phoned to query it. I was told that when I signed up for the one-off payment there was some small print that said I was given membership of a monthly credit check service that was initially $5.00 but would increase to $19.00 if I did not sign out of it. I do not recall this and would not have signed up for any monthly membership - even at $5.00 - because it is a service I do not want and do not need. I called Experian to cancel the account and get a refund. They canceled the account but would only refund one month 's payments. I want all the payments refunded as they are for a service I did not want or need - and one that I was tricked into consuming when I was only trying to get a one-off credit check - which was the advert that I saw and to which I responded. I am extremely careful with my financial affairs and would not sign up for a service like this. The advertising is particularly misleading as it relates to buying a one-off report but has set up a monthly service in an underhand way. I spoke with a manager for whom I have the name and contact ID which I can supply as well as my Experian account number. I would be very grateful if you could pursue this case - and publicize the misleading and unfair way in which Experian has acted.
