When I started school, all me and my cosignor knew was - cumulative max could be borrowed. To us that meant that once that amount had been borrowed, approval would not occur anymore. That credit was checked by lenders and the website that monitors student financial aid would be checked by lenders and when shown that amount had been reached, that was it. However, between - and Navient/- -, they never capped that max and now I am in debt over - dollars. - loan alone went from - original to now - owed. These are just private loans- not including my federal. I am paying OVER - a month in student loans! My entire income is going to this debt. It is not affordble to me nor to my cosignor. They took advantage of nieve borrowers. It wasnt until grad school did I learn of my total amount owed and how these - lenders - us by not stopping the approval process at - max. I have - children and a husband in the military. We are rapidly going in debt and losing things because this is consuming us. They harrass us and our family daily. Sometimes calling 30 times a day, they hound my co signor at work to where he has been threatened to be fired. They refuse any payment options, they have talked to me in the most disrespectful of manners, They threaten us, and not only that its impacting my husband military career and the life we can provide for our children. Something needs to be done about this,, I can not afford this for the rest of my life, it is physically making me ill, mentally wearing on me, I work 5-7 days a week, - jobs ata time, my husband works - jobs and we are not making it.
