I received a pre-approved application for a credit card from Citi ( bank ) / - - - - - -. I went on line to complete the application process and was declined. I followed up and called the number on the application and went through the application process with a representative. Again, at the end, she said it was declined but refused to state why. The individual on the phone would not provide a reason for the decline and said that Citi would send a letter explaining the reason. The letter from Citi was received on - -, 2016 and provided the reason for declining the application. It stated : " Too few satisfactory credit references were recorded on your credit bureau report '', and " The consumer reporting agency serving your area has reported only a limited credit history for you. '' The credit bureau used was -.


I called the number on the letter ( - ) and spoke with a - ( # - ) about the letter. My husband spoke with - for a majority of the call. He explained that we have a copy of the credit report and shared what it said. There were no negative items and all accounts were in good standing. - said he was looking at the report as well and did n't understand why it had been declined. Everything looked good. - put my husband on hold several times while he could try to locate a supervisor so that we could restart the application. Again, several times, - stated it was, " ... weird and I 've never seen anything like this. '' After 27 minutes, - stated that they would not be able to process the application. He would not provide an explanation for the decline. Based on the credit report, credit ratings, and our income level, there was no reason to decline the card. The only explanation would be either discrimination against me for being a female or being married. There is nothing in the credit reports to substantiate a decline of this credit card. As a note, neither my husband nor I carry any credit card debt. We have a home mortgage and a small consumer loan of approximately $5000.00. That is the extent of our debt.
