I was at Kay Jewelers in - -, FL and the salesman asked me if I was a rewards member. I replied no, but was interested because I wanted to get my girlfriend a pricey set of jewelry. The man said that with the rewards card I can also finance some of their products too. I believed that was great but I did n't want to take out any credit cards, so i asked the man if it was a credit card, or if it will affect my credit. The man assured me that it was not a credit card, and that it is only for financing in store, so it wont affect my credit. I was like OK great, let me sign up. I later in the month check my credit through an online credit checking service, and my credit score had gone down about - points due to a new line of credit and a hard inquiry in my credit.I did not solicit a new line of credit and i was not told it was going to affect my credit, the salesman said rewards card that also allows for financing. I specifically did not want to touch my credit because I plan to buy a car and I wanted my credit to be good not - points lower.
