Synchrony Bank Credit Card Complaint

Other

Synchrony Bank Credit card department,

Kansas

I had a JCPenny credit card administered by Synchrony Bank. I paid my first purchase in full on -/-/-, a few days before the due date. I used my bank 's online payment service. The transaction was successful. About 2 weeks later, I received a robocall asking me to identify myself. The recording did not identify the caller in any way, it simply asked me to hit 1 if I was myself and 2 if I was someone else. I believe that the caller should identify themselves, so I did not answer. I did speak to a representative. She also would not fully identify the company. She kept saying " Synchrony Bank '' and that she was trying to collect a debt and was I myself. But she would not tell me who I supposedly owed money to, until I finally identified myself. Then she finally told me who I really was dealing with - my JCPenny account. She said I was past 30 days overdue. I told her, no, I had paid that in full. I told her to cancel the account. I do n't care to do business with a lender that disguises their identity and harasses me

number in my payment information. This was my error. However, Synchrony accepted the payment against an account that I had closed long ago. If they had not accepted it, I would have been able to correct the error immediately. They also made no civil attempt to communicate with me. The call arrived before my next statement, so there was no written communication indicating that there was a problem with the account. The call itself was inappropriate - the lender/collector is supposed to identify themselves. They should not be able to lie about the debt itself, which they did in claiming it was more than 30 days overdue. Synchrony is pretty sure that they 'll remove the $25.00 late fee from my cancelled account, but equally sure that I will be charged the interest for the payment that I made on time.
