Synchrony Bank Credit card department,
Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement Massachusetts
A fraudulent account was opened in my name by Synchrony Bank/Care Credit. They allowed the opening of this account without contacting me, even though I already had an active account with them. When I protested the account, they removed it from my credit reports, but did NOT remove the hard credit inquiry associated with the opening of the account. I have called their fraud investigative office - times since -, 2015, and yet they have still not removed the fraudulent credit inquiry. I contacted the credit bureau today and was told that only the creditor can remove the inquiry, even though the credit bureau has record of the fraudulent account and an initial fraud alert was added to my account immediately after the opening of the account. Why ca n't inquiries be disputed the same as other mistakes? What recourse do I have when the creditor is uncooperative and/or incompetent and my credit suffers as a result?
