Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer trouble with how payments are handled

Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled California
My - - loan was transferred to a new servicer, Navient, some months ago. I have several loans and am making timely payments on all of them. My loan serviced by Navient has always been paid through automatic debit. I only periodically check the accounts since I rely on the automatic payments which have always been properly processed. When checking my Navient account today I realized that Navient has not taken out any payments since - 2015. I immediately called Navient to find out what is going on. It appears that somehow my account was placed on academic deferment. Navient was unable to explain how or why. The Navient representative promissed to get back to me in the next week with further information. I am not back in school and I never applied for deferment. Consequently I expected my payments to be automatically debited as Navient as usual. This appears to be a scheme to charge students additional interest. I am really upset because I have been making timely payments and am expecting the principal owed to be going down. Instead, unbeknownst to lenders Navient places loans in deferment and charges interest only. This is extremely alarming and I am determined to seek further recourse to right this injustice. I hope you can assist me with advising what my options are to make this right.
