Synchrony Bank Credit card department,
I applied on-line for credit from CareCredit at a - store in - - to cover emergency care expenses for a pet last year. The basic application required name, address, phone numbers, e-mail address, social security number, date of birth, housing info, monthly income from all sources. In addition must answer yes '' if a joint application. Just below that section is a choice for statement delivery : either electronic delivery or paper statement. Up to this point all are blanks to fill in. But below the main application is an Ad for CardSecurity displayed in block form with dark background which appears not to be part of the application itself and with a heading in small print Optional Card Security Enrollment Selection '' Below the Ad, it has - options each with a small circle for selection :1. Learn more about this product and 2. I do not wish to enroll. It is very easy to miss. In other words you are automatically enrolled unless you notice and select I do not wish to enroll. That happened to me. Since it was an 18 month deferred payment agreement requiring only minimum monthly payments, and Auto pay was set up, I did not discover the accumulated charges of $260.00 until this month, 12 months later.. We were being charged $1.00 for every $100.00 balance. And the auto payment was being applied to the deferred balance and not against the card security charge with an interest rate of 26 %.
