Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Michigan

I had - student loans serviced by Citibank. I fell on hard times around -. My situation got better and I was able to pay in full what I believed to be the full amount for the - loans. That was an error by me. Zoom ahead to -/-/- and my wife and I are looking to purchase our first house. Our credit score and down payments are in order. To my dismay - loans are still showing a balance. I take responsibility for not realizing these were not included in the full amount that I paid in -/-/-. However, when I tried to pay the remaining two loans I have been told that I can not pay on these because they have been charged off and that Citi is no longer collecting on them. Months later I get a - in the mail regarding a cancelation of debt regarding these accounts. This seems accurate since the loans were charged off. However, now I am still being charged interest and the account is showing that these accounts are in collections and payments are now overdue. I call to fix this issue but am told that there is nothing that they can do as the loan has been charged off and they ca n't collect on it anymore. This does n't make sense because they are reporting that I am over due on my payments and it is open and in collection. I 'm simply trying to get this taken care of one way or the other in order for me and my family to purchase a house. I 'm not looking for any handouts but simply looking for accurate information and customer service agents who can provide accurate information or who are able to get me to people who have that information. This has been very frustrating in many different levels. I just do n't know what to do. Please help if you can. Thank you for your time.
