Non-federal student loan Can't repay my loan California

My daughter attended - in - several years ago. We have a student loan with Wells Fargo ( was - - ). For several years we have managed to keep the loan current, but she recently ran into financial issues after having her - child. We spoke to Wells and they offered a modification. After completing all of the paper work and answering questions ( this took about two months ), we were told we did not qualify for the modification because we couldnt afford the lower payment. Obviously this isnt making sense, this is why we asked for help in the first place. Their response was they can not practice predatory lending and if they lower the payment knowing we cant afford it, this is doing so. We asked if they could help us get caught up and they again said no, that since we dont qualify for the modification we dont qualify for deferred payments. We have gotten repeated calls, and we have made small payments and asked numerous times for help, with the same response each time, no there is nothing we can do ''. Yesterday I received a call from a man that stated we owed the money, and must pay, he suggested that my daughter who works full time and has an infant at home get another part time job. I am disgusted by this company and am desperate for any help we can get! We have asked them for help for 6 months, and they know we need it, but they refuse to do so. What can we do?
