I was making regular payments to my home mortgage for a few years. My loan was eventually transferred to fifth third bank. I setup automatic payments through my bank. Fifth Third bank did not have an online payment method for non-checking account customers. At some point without my knowledge, my total payment due changed and the previous amount I setup did not cover the full amount. The bank did not apply my partial payment and stated I was late. I called Fifth third bank to rectify. They waived the late fee and said they would work on removing the record from my credit statement. I was able to immediately make the missing balance payment and have not been late since. My credit score has been severely negatively affected by this.
