In - I pulled my free credit reports. I noticed that Portfolio Recovery Associates had recently placed a collection account on my file. I did not recognize this account and initiated a dispute. The dispute came back as the account being verified. I called Portfolio Recovery to inquire about the account and they informed me that they could not take any action on the account until -/-/- because they were waiting on the original creditor to furnish verification documents. Portfolio Recovery reported negative information to the credit bureaus before verifying the information. When I questioned the validity of the account they were unable to provide proper documentation. The representative did state that this account is a charge off that is dated in -/-/-. This false reporting has caused me to be denied for credit.
