Credit card Taking/threatening an illegal action Threatened to sue on too old debt Illinois
I was contacted by a Law firm by a man named - -, stating they were from - and - Law Firm and they stated I was being sued by Bank of America. I told them the debt was not mine and that it was opened in my name when I was - or - years old by my parent. He stated that we could settle the debt for $1500.00 if I paid now with - percent down to avoid going to court or we can make monthly payments of $150.00 and pay a balance of $3100.00. I told him I would call him back after speaking to my parent. I then contacted Bank of America and spoke with a representative. She stated that there was no one from Bank of America that was suing me and that they sold the debt to a company called - -. She told me it was sold in - 2009 for the amount of $1500.00 and that again, there was nothing in her records that said that Bank of America is suing me. I read on the statute of limitations in the state of - and - that I can not be sued for this because this is an open-end credit card and the statute of limitations has ran out. I feel harassed by this company for using scare tactics to collect a debt that I feel is not mine and harassing my other family members by calling them multiple times.
