Credit reporting company's investigation Inadequate help over the phone Illinois
TransUnion provides an invalid address and zip code combination for receiving consumer disputes. Because the Postal Service will only deliver certified mail ( return receipt requested ) to an address and zip code combination recognized as valid in the USPS system, TransUnion 's failure to provide consumers with a proper address makes it impossible for consumers to obtain proof that they mailed dispute documentation to TransUnion. USPS refuses to deliver certified mail to the address TransUnion provides for consumer dispute documentation. TransUnion provides this address and zip code for disputes : TransUnion Consumer RelationsPO Box - PA - I attempted to mail a certified letter containing documentation relevant to my dispute, USPS refused. They said it was not a valid zip code and address. I reconfirmed the zip code and address with TransUnion. I also checked forums to see if other consumers were having this problem, and sure enough, it is being reported in various consumer complaint forums ( for example - ). I called TransUnion to request a different zip code. I was told that the above address and zip code combination was correct. They told me if I was having problems with that zip code, I could fax the materials. I was given a list of - items that had to be included in the fax, in order, or the fax would not be accepted. I was also told the fax number was often busy, and so I should attempt to fax my materials multiple times. I concluded that TransUnion was intentionally making it difficult for consumers to dispute items on their credit reports.
