The medical providers agreed at the time to a lien, to wait until settlement with the insurance company of the person that hit me. They chose not to bill the health insurance I had at the time and the health insurance company would have rejected the claim anyhow since the treatments were accident-related. I was advised that it had not reported to the Credit Bureau as of yet and in order to hold the account from further action I needed to pay the balance. Since I had never had contact with the company I did n't know ( and I still do n't know ) the reason for the collection account. I called the company asking for a verification of the debt and instead I received a collection letter asking for payment but no validation of the debt. I sent the company a letter requesting verification of the debt. To this day they have not responded to my request. The only way we found out about this debt was through a derogatory collection mark placed on the credit bureau report.
