During the recession, I incurred personal credit card debt and in late 2014 called Wells Fargo Financial to ask for an interest rate reduction to reflect the fact that my payments were never late. A Wells Fargo representative said they could n't do that but gave me the names of - credit counseling agencies, which the representative said would be able to negotiate a better interest rate. I signed up with - of the - agencies the rep recommended and always paid the agency on time. A year later, I checked my credit report only to find that the agency paid Wells Fargo late for the first 3 months I was enrolled in their program. I went from having no late payments to several. Wells Fargo refuses to remove the late payments off my credit report or the name of the credit counseling agency from its recommended list.
