Citibank Credit Card Complaint

Unsolicited issuance of credit card

Citibank Credit card department,

Unsolicited issuance of credit card California

We have been COSTCO Executive Business members for over 10 years now. Recently, Costco switched their contract from - - credit card to CitiBank credit card. We chose not to activate the new CitiBank card ; paid off all outstanding balance accumulated on the - - card, closed - - account and shredded the CitiBank card mailed to us shortly before the transition. To our surprise, a month or so later we received a statement from CitiBank indicating that we have an outstanding balance with CitiBank. All my attempt to explain to the customer service that we do not have any relationship with CitiBank, never signed any agreements with the company, do not even have a CitiBank card in our possession, or know our CitiBank credit card account number failed. On - -, 2016, I spoke with a - who explained that the balance was for COSTCO membership which was automatically transferred from - - to CitiBank. Since we do not have - contractual relationship with CitiBank, I chose to pay our membership fees at the Costco warehouse directly. Yet, a month later we received another statement from CitiBank, now imposing an interest to the previous balance. I called customer service on - -, 2016, and spoke to a - at ID # - who assured me that the account would be closed within -10 business days. Today, - -, 2016, I have received yet another statement from CitiBank. It still lists outstanding balance and interest. What gives this credit card company the right to harass me? I did not accept or solicit or seek their product, and refused on multiple occasions to use it. I acted in good faith and attempted to find out the origin of their repetitive billing. I spoke to various customer service representatives and have notes of those conversations. If there is no account, no credit card, no activity, and no agreement between us, what exactly am I being charged for?
