Citibank Credit Card Complaint

Unsolicited issuance of credit card

Citibank Credit card department,

Unsolicited issuance of credit card Michigan

- Best Buy : -, MI I was purchasing computer products at Best Buy in -, MI and when I went to complete my transaction and pay for the products the salesperson that was assisting me asked me if I would like a $150.00 gift card or 6 months free financing? I stated that I would like the $150.00 gift card and did not need financing. The salesperson retrieved my information from their records and both my last name and address needed to be corrected/changed.

I then spoke to someone from Best Buy on the phone to confirm these changes. At that point she asked me for my annual or household income ( at the time I believed this was for marketing purposes ). Then I asked the person on the phone from Best Buy who I believed to be changing my name and address if she was " pulling '' my credit bureau? She acted surprised by question and said " well, yes! ". I proceeded to ask the salesperson why would Best Buy would be " pulling '' my credit bureau? I 'm not certain the exact response from the salesperson other than something like ... '' that I would be able to use this card for future purchase, get my $150.00, and get future discounts etc.. I shared with the salesperson that I did not need or want a credit card and that he never asked me if I wanted a Best Buy credit card or told me that Best Buy would be retrieving my credit bureau. I felt very concerned about the safety of the information I had already provided Best Buy under the pretense of changing my last name and changing my address information. I believe this sales technique of offering a " gift card '' and then retrieving a consumer 's credit bureau without their knowledge ( and in my option, without my authorization or signature to do so ) and setting consumer up with a Best Buy credit card is very deceiving and unfair to consumer.
