Citibank Student Loan Complaint

Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer trouble with how payments are handled

Citibank Student loan department,

Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled Illinois

I currently have an outstanding student loan with Citibank. In - 2014, I spent time reviewing my account online in search of a method to increase the auto-debit from the minimum payment to a higher amount, like banks allow you to for credit card payments. I could not find this functionality and so I called the customer service line to inquire how to do so. The customer service representative advised accountholders could not do that on their own, but the customer service representatives could at our request. Therefore, I requested the amount to be withdrawn each month be $150.00 and the additional $ - be applied to my principal. The representative had me wait on the line a couple of minutes as they executed the request, advising they could n't withdraw an even $150.00, but it would be a mere few cents over. Confused, I asked why and they advised it 's just how their system is. I advised that although weird, that it was fine as long as the extra was applied to principal. They then confirmed everything had been taken care of. However, now I have heard from some that many loan providers incorrectly modified the loan schedule for the higher payment, instead of keeping it the same and just adding the extra payment amount to principal - which could qualify as a UDAAP violation. Additionally, that the incorrect loan information ( including minimum payments ) is being provided to the credit bureaus - which is a FCRA violation. I called into Citibank last week to ask whether this was the case - changing the loan schedules vs. applying the extra amount to principal - and their people even confirmed it! They advised there is no way for them to increase the amount withdrawn each month except in doing this, but that I should have been advised. I asked how has this affected the interest I have paid, and they are claiming there is supposedly no impact, but that makes no sense. Please help!
