I recently applied for a home equity loan-my first time doing so. One of the reasons I was n't approved was that I had a charge off on my chase credit card account in 2005. According to the fair credit reporting act information over 7 years old is not to be reported unless is a bankruptcy, and then it 's 11 years. I contacted chase, and they refuse to take it off. The response I received was that they did n't want to affect the integrity of the reporting procedures. So a mistake I made - will affect me the rest of my life? I have 10 years now of no negative marks on my credit, and this is still haunting me. I do n't know what else to do! Please help!
