My wife and I took out - - - from -/-/--/-/-. We were under the same belief that many have that these loans would fund the education that would lead to the higher paying jobs, thus enabling us to repay the loans and have the life we had worked hard to create. After graduation we were told our repayment plans would be more than the income we were making and opted for a hardship forbearance. Once this expired we were still within the same financial structure and unable to pay the requested amount. Navient was formed and our loans were transferred to them for servicing. They were even more difficult to deal with! My wife had her parents cosign on - of her - loans and, as a result, Navient refused to offer income based assistance due to the income her parents bring home. We explained to Navient that these are out loans and we are happy to repay them but we need to be within a reasonable payment. They are requesting over - % of our gross monthly income in the form of payments and are unwilling to budge. We were told that these are private loans and are


include the - loans they are unwilling to include in the consolidation for my wife due to the consigned. They want an additional $800.00 for those - loans- more than the combined total for all the other loans! When all is said and done, they want $2200.00 per month from us. Our monthly income is only $ -. That means over half of it would go to them. That does n't include the Federal loans we pay. Navient has been completely unwilling to work with us despite multiple attempts. The worst part is we have been paying on them for nearly 6 years and the total amount due today is actually more than when we took the loans out due to the 'interest only ' repayment plans and the fact that interest continued to accrue during forbearance. It is almost criminal that these companies are able to lock students in to these loans with no chance of assistance!
