I am - years old, in poor health, living with my daughter in -, and unable to travel except with extreme difficulty. I 'm writing because I am a long-time customer of the - ( I used to live in - ), a part of New York Community Bank. On - -, 2016 a CD of mine in the amount of $15000.00 matured and did not renew. I want to transfer the $15000.00 to my - - checking account via on-line banking, as I expect to need that money for medical treatment purposes. I have been told by the bank that I can not do so on-line but, rather, must travel to my old branch in - -, - in order for them to allow me to move the money to my checking account. Until I do so, the $15000.00 effectively is frozen, and I can not access it. I believe this travel requirement imposed by my bank to be an unfair and illogical requirement ( the bank can easily verify my identity over the phone ), and an extreme hardship for me. It will take me all day to get to the branch and back home, and the long car will be difficult and in fact painful for me. I ask that you assist me in this regard by requiring the bank to allow me to transfer my own money to my checking account.
