Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low New Jersey

Chase has been charging me excessive overdraft fees and NSF charges when I asked them not to let the charges go through as I felt my information may have been compromised before. How can I be charged $40.00 in NSF and overdraft fees for a $5.00 or $9.00 charge. What is the point of doing that? Excessive bank charges for profits is unfair.
