I have had cash on demand account with Wells for the past 7 years. While I may have been late on a payment or - about 5 years ago, I have diligently paid the balance and interest every time I have used the card. Two months ago I received a letter stating that my annual fee would be assessed in the month of -, and since that time I have logged onto my account weekly to look for the assessment and pay my bill. Instead, I received a very curt letter in the mail stating that I had not used the account in - or more months and effective immediately my account is closed. I called Wells customer service to discuss having my account re-opened and offered to make a debit to keep it open. I was told they would not reopen my account but I could apply for a new account. Had I been notified that they were going to close my account if I did not use the card within - days, I would have happily used the card to keep the account open. Wells practice is detrimental to my credit score as I have been a paying customer for years, on both this card and my mortgage. By closing this account they have reduced my available credit balance by $9500.00. Moreover, asking me to apply for new credit instead of reopening my account will negatively impact my credit score as it will ping my SSN and show up as a new inquiry and new account, which are factors used in all - of the credit bureaus ' models. I request that my account be reopened and that the Wells review the fairness and atrocious customer service element of this practice and the harm consumers that are not delinquent.
