GE Capital Retail Credit Card Complaint

Billing disputes

GE Capital Retail Credit card department,

Billing disputes South Carolina

I opened a Belk Department store credit card in the summer of 2014. When I got my - statement, I immediately went to the Belk credit card website to set up an automatic debit of the full payment on the date it was due. My subsequent monthly statement was successfully debited on -/-/2014. Shortly thereafter I could not find my credit card and requested a replacement. My next purchase with the Belk credit card was an on-line purchase for $83.00 on -/-/2014. I received no Belk statements during the next two weeks and left the country and did not return until mid-December. As had been set-up for automatic debits with Belk credit for the full payment, and as my other credit cards had always transferred draft authorizations to replacement cards cards, I was not concerned about the payment. I returned from my trip to find several Belk credit letters waiting. I called immediately and Belk, unlike most other credit cards, does not transfer debit authorizations to replacement cards. Nor do I recall that the replacement card packet provide any warning to update bank debit authorization for payments. I called Belk credit on -/-/14 and made a $100.00 payment by phone.

My - card sent me a notice that my Penalty Annual Percentage rate will be increased to 29.24 %, and the Penalty will be in effect for 12 months. As I pay the balance in full, this will not have a material effect on my finances. However, the impact on my credit reputation is immeasurable. My years of consistent monthly credit payments have been negated. Belk Department stores has trashed my reputation ... for an $83.00 purchase. On the other hand, I discovered a fraudulent transaction for $200.00 on -/-/2014 on my - credit card. - sent me a card with a new number and transferred the monthly draft to the new card automatically. - did not think to ask me and I also did not give it a - thought.
