Student loan dealing with my lender or servicer having problems with customer service October 12, 2016 - I - - am being pressured by a number of collection agencies that state they have a right to an administrative garnishment against my wages. Administrative garnishments can only be procured by the United States Government, period. My student loans are privately owned, and these private debt collectors are disguising themselves as collectors of federal debts that are private only. I have been harassed at my work and home with threatening phone calls, all in violation of my rights with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. '' They would not state what this acronym represented, and instead said, " Oh, you do n't know? I think you do. '' They would ask for my birthdate and social security number. I work very hard and understand I need to repay my debts but I can not live like this.
