Bank of America charged an annual fee of $79.00. Although they were charging this fee for the first time ( they do n't charge it the first year to get people to sign up ) they would n't refund the fee even if the account was cancelled. They claim to have sent a notification email, however they made the subject of that email " Your Credit Card Legal Notices Are Now Available '' no mention of a fee. In fact, to see the details about the fee you 'd have to click on a link inside that email and be redirected to their website. Although the fee is for the coming year, 95 % of which is still unused, they refused to waive the fee, or even prorate it saying that once it 's charged they wo n't refund it. This is clearly predatory behavior aimed at bilking unsuspecting customers the vast majority of whom would n't even open an email with the subject line above.
