Citibank Credit card department,
I received a bill from Macy 's Store Credit Card on -/-/2017 with a total new balance for that statement in the amount of $300.00. The payment due date listed on the statement was -/-/2017. I made a payment in the amount of the full balance of $300.00 on -/-/2017 bringing the account balance to zero. According to the card-member agreement included with the bill, interest will not be charged if you pay your new balance by the payment due date each month. On -/-/2017, I received an email notification stating my Macy 's card balance was overdue. I pulled the statement and it showed I had received an interest charge on -/-/2017 in the amount of $4.00 even though I had submitted my payment in full of the total new balance sent to me in -. The statement received in - showed an additional interest charge of $2.00 on the incorrectly applied interest charge added to my account in -. Macy 's fraudulently charged the interest from the balance in -/-/2017 when the according to their own payment rules, no interest is charged on payments made in full for the entire balance. This situation reveals a major issue in how they charge interest to accounts with no catch to ensure customers are not fraudulently charged interest when there is no balance to charge interest. Not only did they charge me the incorrect interest in -, they also charged a second interest amount for the - bill and reported my account as past due. How long would this have gone on had I not checked my account even though I had payed my balance in full and had not used the card in two months? This is abusive behavior by Macy 's and it needs to be addressed with how their system applies interest to accounts and they should retroactively review accounts to make sure no one else has been effected by this major deficiency.
