Citibank Credit card department,
Closing/Cancelling account New York
I had a Home Depot credit card for many years at - balance. I looked at my credit score and saw that the account had been closed. I called the Home Depot credit department, I believe it 's with Citibank and was informed by Customer Service that it had been closed from -/-/2016 from the credit bureau. They could not tell me the reason why they closed the account but directed me to contact the credit bureaus. So I said hypothetically there could have been a negative on someone 's credit history due to fraud or id theft or what have you, the company DOES NOT inform the consumer but takes a decision based on the red flags that the credit reporting agencies without any input from the consumer, and then not tell them about their decision. This is a totally unfair practice. Home Depot should have had the courtesy to let me know that they closed my account and on what basis. I am in dispute with another company in regards to late payments on my account. But a company can not make decisions solely on the credit bureaus reporting without the knowledge of the consumer.
