Citibank Credit Card Complaint

APR or interest rate

Citibank Credit card department,

APR or interest rate Vermont

I switched my Citi platinum card to a Citi cashback card. Shortly after switching, they offered me a 5.99 % APR on new purchases through -/-/17. I signed up for it, thinking that while I always pay off new charges every month, it would be nice to have a lower interest rate just in case. After sending an amount to cover last month 's new charges, plus an additional $100.00 to cover balance transfer amounts I had on the card at 0 % APR, I was surprised that I was charged an interest fee of $2.00. I checked Citi, and it looked as if the amount I put towards my new charges was not applied to the new charges since they were sitting not in the new interest charges section of my statement, but in a separate offer ( # - ). I wrote to Citi to say that I had expected that new charges would have been paid off first when I sent them money, and even if it was in a different offer, that my payments should go to pay off the highest interest offer first. This was their response : " Thank you for your inquiry.

If the Annual Percentage Rates ( APR ) are the same, the offer with the earliest expiration date will be paid first. Amounts in excess of the minimum due are applied to balances with higher APRs before balances with lower APRs. We are unable to apply the payments which will be applied to higher interest first. If you wish to cancel enrollment from offer - kindly respond back to this message. If there is any way we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us. " I wrote back that they should cancel offer - and also refund me the measly - dollars and change they charged me, but then I realize that I basically have to pay both last months charges AGAIN in order to have that amount wiped clean and so I do n't gain any more interest. To me, it seems predatory that they would apply additional funds beyond the minimum amount to cover lower interest offers over higher interest offers. Also, it is a financial hardship to have to pay the same amount again so as not to incur future interest. I am incredibly disappointed in Citi and told them that I would be writing to the CFPB. I have asked Citi to refund my interest and move my former " offer - '' balance to a 0 % offer to give me time to pay it back without incurring future interest, since I have effectively already paid back that amount. This would be the same as if they took the payment I made, applied it to the new charges and reapplied that amount to - of the 0 % APR offers the money did go to.
