Amex Credit card department,
I ( - - - ) tried to close my Delta Gold American Express b/c of the annual fee of $95.00. I stopped using the card. I called nearly half a dozen times to request closure. Amexp kept giving me the run around, trying to keep my acct open. Finally a male supervisor in - said he would reverse the $95.00 and call me to follow up within 72 hours. That was -/-/- or -/-/-. Never happened. I called again on -/-/-, and spoke to -. - opened an - complaint to Corporate to remove annual fee. - # -. This is what she told me she wrote : - basic card member called on -/-/- to cancel her card product. - was outside 30d window. supervisor based in - would remove annual fee and call in 72hr to confirm No call was placed and annual fee was not removed. Due to that effect it caused a late fee and finance fee. - paid balance in full minus the $95.00 based on what the supervisor told her.
My husband - - is going through the exact same thing!! We tried to close his account b/c of the fee. He stopped using the card months ago. Amex tries to talk him into keeping the acct. He asks for a downgrade to a free card. None available. Amex claims that they ca n't reverse the annual fee for -/-/- even though we have n't used the account since the fee was assessed. Moreover, we stopped using the account months before the fee was assessed. AME- does this every single time. We have never experienced this with any other bank. Then Amex tries to charge late fees and interest charges based on the annual fee alone!!!!! This is unconscionable.
