Citibank Credit card department,
Citibank raised the interest rate on my credit card from 13.7 % to 28.99 % on - -, -. This was done without notice and otherwise in violation of the CARD Act of - which requires payments to be made over 60 days late for the interest rate to be raised. Citibank says that it left a telephone message for me but I never received one. It admits that it did not send any mail, email, or notice on the online account. Citibank believes that it is immune to United States law and can set rules and regulations as it pleases. It says that its account disclosures when the account was opened in - - justify the hike in interest rates, but does not dispute that such account disclosures are contrary to the CARD Act, which was adopted subsequently. Citibank justifies the increase in interest rate since the account was " delinquent for a long time '' prior to the rate increase. However, Citibank admits that the account was delinquent ( late payments but less than 60 days ) - times in eight years, but says that there were - late payments in six months prior to - -, it is justified in raising the rate. This is not the law.
