After issues a dispute with the insurance company paying a hospital debt, the debt was passed to a debt collector. I contacted the debt collector to clear the amount. The deb collector told me I could either work out a payment plan or I could pay a slightly lower one-time payment to clear the debt. I went with the second option ( total debt was $1100.00, I paid $970.00 ). The representative on the phone told me legally that they could not send me an email or fax detailing either payment option. Now, after more than 2 months, I have not gotten a paid in full statement ( which I requested ) and they are coming after me for the full amount. They have not returned letters to their office and refused any written correspondence.
