Citibank Credit card department,
Credit card protection / Debt protection Maryland
I was enrolled in a credit protection program through my Macys credit card. I opened up my Macys account several years ago and last month I got a letter saying I would be enrolled in a credit protection program. If I did n't opt out, my account would be charged a percentage every year as part of the program. I called Macys customer service and asked how I was enrolled in this service. The woman first said that I signed up for credit protection when I got my Macys card. I told her that I 've had my Macys card for several years and only received notice last month that I was enrolled in credit protection. She then said that this service was added to all accounts, letters were sent out informing customers and if they did n't opt out then they would be enrolled in the program. That if someone did n't receive the letter or it was lost, they would have no way of knowing they were enrolled until charges started showing up. I told that I think this is illegal and would be reporting it to this Bureau.
