Amex Credit card department,
Credit card protection / Debt protection New York
I entered into a contract with a kitchen co. to design, fabricate and install a new kitchen in a - apt - in - Prior to kitchen delivery, the co. forced me to pay the balance of $11000.00, or delivery and installation would not be done. My wife and I had a 2 month old infant without a kitchen, so I reluctantly agreed, and payed with my American Express card, affording me the opportunity to have protection in case of any problems. After the delivery and installation of the kitchen, I observed shoddy workmanship and poor material quality. I notified the company, and they made half hearted attempts to correct the problems. The kitchen is not completed, filled with outstanding issues, as per the contractor 's own punchlist, and contractor has ignored my requests.
I immediately notified American Express, submitting documentation of the unfinished kitchen, no license, etc. To my astonishment, after receiving and " reviewing '' my documents, Amex has payed the contractor, and refused to issue me a credit. I have written and submitted my documentation to the president of American Express, who delegated my problem to a low level employee -, who declined my request. Rules, including licensing requirements, are mandatory and to be followed and adhered to, by all contractors. Amex 's weak response is unacceptable in light of the overwhelming evidence, including an incomplete and flawed kitchen.
