I have medical debt that was incurred due to a car accident in -/-/2007. The medical providers agreed at the time to a lien, to wait until settlement with the insurance company of the person that hit me. They chose not to bill the health insurance I had at the time and the health insurance company would have rejected the claim anyhow since the treatments were accident-related. In -/-/-, my case went to a jury trial. I partially lost the case and the medical bills now in collection as of -/-/- were deemed to be unrelated to the accident. The medical providers broke the lien/contract by sending this to collections. They had an opportunity to bill my health insurance and did not. My attorney agrees that I should not be liable for the bills. I will pursue legal action, if necessary, but hope that you can intervene before I have to go that route.
