Wells Fargo & Company Credit card department,
I was a Wells Fargo customer with their Wells Fargo Visa - which gave - points per $1.00 spent at drug stores and grocery stores. I bought prepaid cards as defined legally as " - '' by the CFPB. The T & Cs from Wells Fargo state we can not buy cash equivalents such as money orders or pre-paid gift cards. " - '' is explicitly defined as NOT a gift card by the CFPB. Furthermore, cash equivalents have a definition as well. Cash equivalents include all undeposited negotiable instruments ( such as checks ), bank drafts, money orders and certain certificates of deposit. Of which, a - '' is none. I received a letter asking me to cease buying prepaid cards or they would shut down my account. I did so immediately but nonetheless they shut down my account and took all the rewards I had earned which totaled $5000.00. I contacted Wells Fargo 's - office and complained that I had done exactly what they had asked but still they closed my account and took all my hard earned rewards where in the end I lost money. I get that they can terminate the relationship at any time, but they should n't be holding back rewards, as what I did was not in violation of the contract.
