Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Received bad information about my loan Missouri
My mother was a co-signer on my Wells Fargo private student loan. My parents claimed bankruptcy. Wells Fargo discovered that my parents claimed bankruptcy and hid my account. I suddenly could n't access my account online. I tried talking to Wells Fargo about it. They would n't talk to me about my account. They would n't tell me how much I still owed. They would n't tell me anything about making payments. All they would tell me is that legally, they could n't discuss my account or collect payments because of my parents bankruptcy. They said that the account would reappear after - years. My parents bankruptcy ended this past year. When that happened, my student loan account reappeared, and Wells Fargo aggressively came after me, calling at least once an hour. They said that I defaulted for - years. They said I owed them the entire student loan, I could no longer make payments. They said that my default voided out agreement. They reported - years of backdated defaults to the credit bureaus. They destroyed my credit overnight. They turned the loan over to collections. I ended up settling on an amount. I ended up paying them with the only money that I had, which was a federal student loan. Fortunately, I was in grad school at the time. But, it really messed up my living situation because I had to use that federal money to pay off the old Wells Fargo debt.
