U.S. Bancorp Credit card department,
I use a US Bank rewards card for company expenses and pay it off each mot month. When I was reviewing last months statement yesterday, I noticed that a $57.00 interest charge had been added. I was surprised at that because of my pay it off each month process. I checked the date of the payments last month to see if they arrived late ... no they were there on time. Then I checked the past due line on the statement and there was zero showing as past due. So I called to see what I was missing. After all $57.00 is real money. The person on the phone quickly advised me that they would waive the interest charge, but the reason it was generated is the reason for my complaint. Turns out, due to my check writing error, the - checks I wrote from different accounts for last month 's payment was - short of full payment. So interest was charges as though I had n't gotten the payment there on time for the entire amount. Excuse me..this sounds like illegal activity to me even if it was just a computer error or something. I had a - shortage of my payment, which was rounded off to show zero in the past due, but the interest function charged me $57.00. I wonder if the interest rate on a - charge is to get to $57.00. Not sure it is calculable. I know that I was not out any money because I called and asked about it, but what if I had n't, and what about all the people that just pay the balance showed and end up paying those charges on mistakes like that.
