Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Don't agree with fees charged California

I have been paying thru garnishment of wages for a loan that had a amount due on $18000.00 as of - - 2012 based on a order to withhold from earnings. The payments have been going to Performant Recovery as of today my employer approached me and gave me a summary of payment showing they have paid $18000.00. upon calling performant they are saying I still owe $4000.00 and this will accrue interest of $65.00 per month. I employer said it has been paid, please help performant will no negotiate I tried offer a settlement payment they would not accept.
