Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled Ohio
My student loan was in default status. In - of 2016, I started the process of bringing the loan out of default, by submitting payments and filling out the default application by Vermont Student Loan Assistance. I began officially in the program in -. Every month the invoice came in and I paid it. In - I began getting phone calls and received one letter indicating that I had missed a payment. When I was able to get out of work early enough to return their phone call, I discovered they applied the payment I sent in for - in - because it was TOO early. Thereby making it look like I had not sent in a payment for -. Because of a change in finances and having my banking information breeched, I was unable to make a payment in -. When I was able to make contact and explain the situation thoroughly I was advised that due to non-payment, I was being place BACK in collection and that I had to start the entire process over. I have been working diligently to pull this student loan out of default status and I feel that despite my due diligence and doing my best to work within their perimeters, I am being punished for unforeseeable problems. I live paycheck to paycheck and have worked hard to make sure that for the last 10 months the payments were made either on time or early and am being punished for this.
