Citibank Credit card department,
I had a Preferred Thank you card with Citi which I cancelled when I was bill an annual fee. When I cancelled I agreed to continue my relationship and Citi offered me a no annual fee card which I agreed to take. Citi send me a written confirmation of the cancellation of the Preferred card cancellation. I just received the first bill on the new card and it contained a $95.00 previous charge ( The annual fee from the cancelled card ), a $25.00 penalty and a $3.00 interest charge. Citi deigned to reverse the charges after an hour call and said the $95.00 fee would have been reversed later after 60 days expired from the cancellation date ( and cancellation period was required by law ). That may be true but they were silent with respect to the interest charge and the late fee. There practice seem just wrong and Citi should be required to change their policy or at the very least suspend the imposition of a fee on a cancelled card!.
