Citibank Credit Card Complaint

Advertising and marketing

Citibank Credit card department,

Advertising and marketing Washington

Between -/-/--/-/2016, I have received no less than 6 letters ( see attached as example ) supposedly from Citibank , N.A . ( - -, SD ) saying " Thank you for your interest in obtaining an account with us. We are unable to process your request at this time because we could not verify the accuracy of the credit information on your application. In order of us to continue processing your application, please call us at -... '' The issues I have with this letter are : 1 ) There is no mention in the letter about WHAT specifically the application I " supposedly submitted '' was for ( credit card, debit card, checking account? ) 2 ) I have NEVER submitted any application to Citibank for ANYTHING 3 ) When I call the number, I 'm prompted immediately to input my entire Social Security number ( which I will NOT do ) before I can even speak to anyone " live '' 4 ) When I did finally manage to find a live person to speak to about this after nearly an hour of digging around on the internet for a phone number, I was told by a CSR that Citibank could not provide me with any details about the nature of my " supposed '' application because that information was confidential - DESPITE that it was " supposedly '' MY credit information!!! This is absolutely ridiculous and a time drain. I monitor my credit history very carefully and I should be able to know if someone is attempting to open an account in my name, without my authorization. If this is nothing more than a marketing ploy to get me to contact Citibank so a CSR can convince me to open an account with them, I want the letters stopped IMMEDIATELY as I have neither the time nor patience to mess with this.
