I 've been listed as additional user on a citicard since 1992. My dad ( primary account holder ) added my brother and I when we were young ( - ), for unexpected expenses while traveling, etc. I have n't seen or used the card in over 10 years, and assumed the card no longer existed. My brother still has his card, and accidentally used that card ( instead of his normal CC ) for an $850.00 charge in -. My dad was travelling all -, and did n't get the bill, thus did n't realize anything was owed. He learned of the issue 60 days after the due date, and immediately made full payment. Despite - year history of 100 % on time payments, citicards dinged all three of us with the credit agencies. In summary, my credit rating ( with no blemishes prior to this ) has now been dinged because of an fluke event related to a card that I did n't even know still existed ( I threw away my card over 10 years ago ). I was never contacted by citicards at any point about the issue. It is extremely unfair for them to ding my credit without giving me any notice that I had an outstanding liability. I 've never been late on any payments of any type. Despite my best efforts to solve directly with citicards, they refuse to even let me discuss the issue with anyone with capability to revise the credit issue as currently reported to the rating agencies.
