My Student Loan is with - The principle balance is $83000.00. The loan went into default and the debt was sent to Performant for collection purposes. I explained to Performant and to - PHEAA that I submitted paperwork for Income Based Payment Reduction. It was an error as this was paperwork I filed for my other Federal Student loans, which I received economic payment reduction approval for. I asked if there was anyway to submit the paperwork for this and the answer was no. The ONLY option I had to rehabilitate my loan was to pay Performant their collection fees plus interest. When I finally sat down to sign the letter to do so, I read that the max amount the can collect is - %. The paperwork I received is calculated at - %. I asked for them to correct the paperwork with a resounding NO from them. I have already


that if I paid off the loan that my credit would continue to show the loan in default for the next 7 years. I believe that I am a fairly intelligent person who due to various circumstances holds student loans longer than planned. That being said, I do not believe this collector is behaving in a way that is honest and fair to the public. - should also be held responsible as I was told they were the main driving force behind these ridiculous fees. To just enter the rehab program my principle balance will go from $83000.00 to their $100000.00 - is a private company seeking the best interest of their investors but that does not mean we should be treated this way.
