Have called Citibank about 2 weeks ago to trace two payments from my account to a third party who claims has not received these payments. I spent more than 30-40 minutes on the first occasion trying to resolve the issue with a phone representative who promised I would receive a notice within 48 hours with the results of the payments trace. When I requested a name, representative id or reference number for our call, the representative could only offer me her first name, but promised me that a record of our call would be logged onto their systems for referral in case the I did not receive the notice promised. More than 2 weeks later no such notice was received. I just called again to follow up on this request, speaking to a new representative by the name of - ( she declined to provide me with any other information, including a representative id, or extension number ), who could not find any reference to my previous call and thus
a notice within 48 hours. Most other companies I have dealt with generally offer a reference number after a customer call, together with a representative id number, so that the issue can be traced back if not resolved adequately. Citibank 's process for resolving customer matters requiring follow up are either severely deficient out of organizational incompetence, or more cynically, purposely designed to avoid leaving an accountability trail that could lead to regulatory actions. I believe that this matter deserves your attention as it is clearly abusive of the banks customers, as well as possibly abusive of the regulatory process, by designing a system that results in the hiding of these types of issues from regulatory oversight.
