I opened a new Skymiles American Express card a few months ago pursuant to a promotional offer. The offer stated that I would be awarded - bonus miles and a $50.00 statement credit after my first Delta flight purchase. Nowhere in the offer did it state that I would not be eligible for the promotion if I had a Skymiles American Express card in the past. I held a Skymiles American Express card that I canceled about two years ago. After spending about $2000.00 on my American Express card, I called American Express because I was not awarded the bonus miles. The representative first claimed that the statement, that previous card holders are not eligible for the promotion, was in the acceptance letter sent by American Express. When I told her it needs to be in the offer because after I applied and accepted to the offer, I had already put in the time to apply for the card, and taken a hit to my credit. The representative then claimed that this information was in in the offer itself. The representative would not offer any sort of compensation. I am certain this information was not in the offer. Delta and/or American Express send multiple offers per year, and none of these offers contained the limitation that, in order to be eligible for the promotion, you can not have previously had a Skymiles American Express card.
