I applied for a CITI Simplicity credit card with the intention of using the balance transfer offer. I submitted my application online. As I was waiting for my approval status, the website refreshed and provided me with an error message. I then called CITI credit card applications customer service to notify of the issue and to find out the result. I was notified that I was approved for a $2000.00 credit limit. I notified the customer service representative that I would like to request that the limit be increased. I was told I needed to wait until the card arrived in the mail then to call back with the request. About one and half week later I received the card and placed a call to customer service like I was told. It took - attempts for me to be able to speak to a service representative. The first - attempts, I was on hold for 40 minutes and could not hold any longer. The - attempt, my call was answered in 10 minutes. I then requested for my line to be increased to $7000.00 because the reason for me in applying is to perform a balance transfer and $2000.00 is not enough. After providing additional information, I was notified that I was not approved for the increase. I asked the representative about options on how I could withdraw my application and I was told that I needed to withdraw my application the day I submitted the application. She said that my account was already open and I can not withdraw my application. This is troubling because I was told I needed to wait for my card to arrive in order to negotiate the credit limit. However, I was never notified that there was no option to withdraw the credit application if I did not like the terms and conditions. Other banks always have provided the opportunity to withdraw a credit application, im not sure what makes CITI different.
