I received an email from Delta Skymiles which offered me a bonus of - miles if I would sign up for their credit card with American Express. I signed up for the card in -/-/-, and completed their requirement of charging and paying for $1000.00 on the card. I had just used - miles on another American Express card in order to purchase a round trip ticket from - to - on - -. Since Delta is now a partner with - -, I assumed I could do the same with these miles. In the meantime, - contacted me again and offered that if I would recruit more credit card users they would give me even more free miles, and also would give free miles to the new users. Yesterday I tried to go to the website to see how I could use the - miles. Unfortunately, all the urls listed by - in the search were for new people signing up for the card. There was no way on those sites for a credit card holder to log
When I went on to the website and tried to transfer the miles to my - - - - account, it told me I was " not eligible '' to do so. I called the contact number and the person who answered told me that it was impossible to transfer miles to another account. Very curious as my other American Express card had that feature, and Sky Miles is part of Delta, which is in turn part of - - and - -. Today ( after about 15 minutes searching among the " offering '' websites for SkyMiles for one that would take a log in ) I tried to find out what the - miles would actually buy. Instead of having a section ( as every other card company has ) that explains what kind of flight you can obtain with a certain number of miles, this website required me to actually book a flight. The first time I tried to do so, I was informed that the flight was not available for my miles. I was not told why that was so, and I still had no information on what kind of flight I could get for the miles. When I finally downgraded and changed the booking enough so that it listed a flight, it turned out I would need twice as many miles as needed on my other American Express card, in order to book a much longer and more inconvenient flight with several layovers. SkyMiles is still actively advertising their card and offering " special '', and I think they should be prevented from doing so. Their miles are not usable and are worth less, than they are on other credit cards. It is very difficult to access your account information or even to find out the values and utility of the miles. In the meantime, I have signed up for a useless card and wasted $1000.00 charging there when my other card would have yielded miles that were actually useable.
