This complaint relates to case number -. The original creditor is -, arising from a final bill from an apartment that I moved out of in - -. In - - I received a letter from a debt collector asking for payment of $140.00. I mailed a payment via my credit union 's bill pay on -/-/- for the full amount due. The letter, which purported to be from an - office in -, TN, instructed to make checks payable to - -. In - -, I received a bill for the same amount from a separate collection agency for the same debt. The agency is -, - After double-checking that I had already paid, I assumed they had some wires crossed, so I ignored the bill. On - I received another bill from -, so I called them to explain that I had already paid the bill. They demanded proof from me rather than checking with -. Because the payment was made via bill pay, I will have to go into my credit union branch to get a copy. This will be time consuming and annoying. I feel the burden should be on the collection agency to ask their client to double check their records. In the meantime, my credit score has been harmed by the report to credit bureaus by -.
